Blessed Generation

Locations and projects

From bed, lunch, and shelter to education and work

Blessed Generation has three locations and is increasingly launching local initiatives, such as the Lighthouse project and the Outreach program. Below, you can read about how each project came about, how it has grown, and where we could still use your help.

Location 1

Ruiru – Blessed Generation Highschool

Own secondary school for disadvantaged children

In Ruiru, just outside Nairobi, is the Blessed Generation High School. More than 125 young people from underprivileged backgrounds live and learn here on a single campus. They receive education, three meals a day, a bed, and most importantly: social-emotional support. All of this takes place in a safe environment, where our social workers are present every day.

Why have your own high school?

In Kenya, all secondary schools are boarding schools. Our children often found it difficult to cope in large schools, far from home, without familiar guidance. When school fees also increased annually, we decided to build our own high school. The first class started in 2015, and since then hundreds of students have moved on to vocational training and universities.

We want to continue converting the old school building into a fully-fledged secondary school. This includes additional classrooms, two new dormitories, and good ICT facilities. Funds are still urgently needed.

Location 2

Nyamira – Shelter and Education in Western Kenya

Growing up in small family homes with a view to the future

Nyamira is located in the hilly west of Kenya. Here we take in over 100 children, of whom 75 are permanent residents. They live in small family homes with a maximum of 10 children, each with dedicated caregivers. Some children are in temporary crisis care, while others are waiting for adoption or placement with family.

Elementary school for over 750 children

Blessed Generation built a primary school here in 2013 and donated it to the community. In collaboration with the government, we ensure that the school remains accessible. We pay most of the teachers and cover the costs of books, materials, and maintenance. Parents from the neighborhood contribute to the lunch program together with BG Netherlands, so that every child receives a hot meal every day.

Location 3

Malindi – School, daycare, outreach and Lighthouse

A vibrant location where healthcare and education come together

On the east coast of Kenya is our location in Malindi. Here, there is a school with over 300 students, a shelter for about 30 children, and the newest program, the Lighthouse, which now (2025) has 14 homes for adoption and foster care. In addition, we have an outreach program.

What we need help with

Nieuwe manieren, nieuwe projecten

Andere organisaties komen kijken, willen leren. En wij zijn zó dankbaar.”

Outreach program – help before it's too late. Preventing children from being removed from their homes

One of the most powerful elements of our approach is the Outreach Program in Malindi. The idea behind it is simple but powerful: children belong at home—in their own families, their own neighborhoods, their own cultures. Sometimes a family is affected by illness (such as HIV/AIDS), death, or poverty. Blessed Generation provides timely assistance so that placement in a shelter is not necessary.

What the Outreach Program does

We support families in the region who are struggling but want to succeed. These include single parents, sick caregivers, or family members who are caring for multiple orphaned children. By providing targeted assistance, we strengthen the entire family system. Blessed Generation biedt deze gezinnen

Home visit & food parcel

A home visit and a food package for basic necessities every two weeks.

Medical assistance & guidance

Access to medical care and personal guidance where necessary.

School fees for children

Payment of school fees for all school-age children in the family.

Access to secondary education

Support to enable children to attend secondary school.

Microcredit for your own business

Small loans for your own business, such as a bakery.

Impact in practice

Thanks to this program, dozens of families have now found their way to independence. Children receive education, parents build up an income, and the family grows in stability. The children remain rooted in their environment—with the prospect of a better future.

Where we need extra help

More monthly sponsors to continue providing food parcels on a structural basis

✨ Extra special

The Outreach Program not only prevents crisis intervention, it also builds resilience.

Parents are back on their own two feet—and children can just be children, growing up in their own environment.

Lighthouse Project – a village of hope

Family formation as an alternative to large-scale care

In 2024, the Lighthouse project in Malindi officially launched: a unique residential concept in which children from the shelter no longer live in an institution, but grow up in loving families—within a close-knit community. Not a home, but a home.

What is the Lighthouse project?

The first 12 houses have been built on and around the Blessed Generation site, in collaboration with the Pharus Foundation. Each house is home to a married couple with jobs, children of their own, and room in their hearts for foster or adopted children from BG. The children taken in are full members of the family—they are not “guests,” but simply “children of.”

It is a new form of cohabitation, which is virtually unheard of in Kenya. A kind of village community, where solidarity, structure, and independence come together. BG provides these families with housing, food, and pays for the education of the children taken in.

Results and inspiration

During the opening in 2024, Ramla—who grew up at Blessed Generation herself—told her story. She now lives in one of the Lighthouse families. Her speech was filled with confidence, gratitude, and pride. As the head teacher so beautifully put it: “Sit back, relax, and enjoy. This is the future.”

✨ What is special:

What once seemed impossible is now here—tangible, vibrant, hopeful. And we've only just begun.

What we continue to build together

Further expansion of the Lighthouse village with more houses

Training and guidance for foster families

Structural financial support for food, education, and maintenance

From kindergarten to university: 1,400 children

In total, Blessed Generation supports more than 1,400 children in education every year – from kindergarten to university. Around 75 students are currently following vocational training or university studies with the support of BG. Our former students now work as doctors, bank employees, bakers, or entrepreneurs. And as soon as they can, they give back to the children who came after them, as donors or volunteers. In this way, they pass on what they themselves have received.
